Stereotyping is not benign

It can lead to harmful prejudices against a group of people and foster an 'us against them' divide which works against societal harmony

In the late 1980s, I became the first Asian academic vice-president of a 100-year-old Canadian college.

At an open-house event, I dropped by at a table of parents and said: "Welcome to our college."
