Theses artificially dwarfed trees carry hefty price tags for their carefully cultivated shapes, which are seen as an art form

With its artfully gnarled trunk and meticulous balance of deadwood, leaves and branches, a bonsai plant is often seen as a symbol of calm, harmony and peaceful energy.

The older and more sinewy the bonsai, the higher the asking price.
