Friends and colleagues of theatre practitioner Zelda Tatiana Ng know that when they text her over WhatsApp, they cannot expect an immediate reply. She will see their messages only when she gets to a Wi-Fi network, which might happen only at the end of the day.
The 49-year-old is among the rare few here bucking the trend of people using ever more mobile data. She terminated her $70-a-month data plan three years ago, and now relies solely on Wi-Fi to access apps such as Facebook and LinkedIn.
