SINGAPORE - From July, national servicemen will be able to get discounts when booking sports facilities, signing up for courses organised by the People's Association (PA), as well as at selected lifestyle activity venues and shops.

The discounts have been organised by the PA as a way of thanking NSmen for their contributions to the nation, it said in a statement on Thursday (June 28).

Community centres (CCs) will be offering 10 per cent off sign-up and booking fees for their courses and facilities between July 1 and July 31. Water venture outlets partnering with PA will offer a 10 per cent discount for various land- and water-based lifestyle activities from July 1 to Dec 31. Some CCs will also offer extended discounts running until Dec 31, with the full list available on the PA website.

Eight gyms located in the Ulu Pandan, Serangoon, Potong Pasir, Henderson, Queenstown, Tampines West, Ayer Rajah and Dover CCs will be offering discounts for entry and membership.

There will also be discounts available at 300 participating merchants around the island, including hawker centres, entertainment outlets and tuition centres. The full list of participating merchants is also available on the PA website.

Mr Low Hock Kee, chairman of Boon Lay Hawkers' Association, said in the PA's statement: "We would like to show our appreciation by collaborating with PA again to offer some discounts for national servicemen as a way of saying 'thank you' for their hard work."

The Boon Lay Hawkers' Association collaborated with PA to offer similar discounts last year in celebration of the 50th anniversary of national service.

NSmen can simply present their 11B identification card or wear their uniforms to enjoy the discounts, which are available for both full-time and operationally ready national servicemen.
