SINGAPORE - Madam Taksiah Razak, 56, and her husband used to be familiar faces in the MacPherson neighbourhood.

It is no longer their occupation, but for almost two decades, their rag-and-bone trade and other odd jobs enabled them to raise 11 children, aged 13 to 35.
