Torque shop: Christopher Tan, ST's senior transport correspondent, gets your questions answered

My car acts like it cannot go beyond 60kmh. Sometimes, its speed drops even though I am stepping hard on the accelerator. At other times, it picks up speed on its own. What is wrong with my car?

If everything that you have described occurred on a flat road, your car's transmission may be slipping.

Causes include low transmission fluid level, low fluid pressure and faulty pressure regulation or control.

Send your vehicle to a transmission specialist for a proper diagnosis.
