Can I reset the Check Engine Light without getting it repaired?

It is possible to reset the Check Engine Light. This is done by clearing the fault memory in the engine's electronic control unit.

However, if the fault has not been repaired, the fault code will be triggered again and the light on the dashboard will reappear.
