The Toyota Prius has established itself as an efficiency champ. Clocking 20km to 25km on a litre of petrol is almost a given - in real-world driving conditions, with the air-conditioning switched on.

It is an achievement born of a long journey. The model has been around for 23 years and is into its fourth generation. Clearly, practice makes perfect.
