Porsche Taycan gives Tesla a run for its money
The Porsche Taycan, the road-going derivative of the Mission E prototype, will enter production next year as the sports-car maker's first 100 per cent electric vehicle.
According to Porsche, the name means "lively young horse" and alludes to the energetic steed at the centre of the Porsche crest. The Taycan is shaping up to be a serious rival to the Tesla Model S, with a potential system output of over 440kW, a target range of over 500km and a 0-to-100kmh acceleration timing of under 3.5 seconds.
Bentley marks Sewing Machine Day
Last Wednesday, the British ultra-luxury marque observed the country's National Sewing Machine Day by highlighting the artisanal work done by the 120-strong sewing team in its Crewe factory.
The embroidery department creates bespoke leather designs requested by Bentley buyers. Elaborate embroidery for customised cabins can require up to half a million individual stitches and a few kilometres of thread.
Bentley's purpose-built equipment used for this bespoke work can trace its lineage to the patent received by English inventor Thomas Saint in 1790 for his design of a machine to sew leather and canvas.

The contest kicks off on Monday with England's Group G match against Tunisia.
