Hunk fest

One of Singapore’s most eligible bachelors was taken off the market when Singapore Idol winner Taufik Batisah, 33, got married yesterday to production manager Sheena Akbal, 30. But pine not. Here are 10 hunks in show business who are still available

ALLAN WU, 42

Occupation: Actor-host

Height: 1.82m

Weight: 80kg

Social media numbers: Instagram @wulander: 14,700 followers, Twitter @wulander: 7,600 followers

He is tall, dark and handsome. His abs are like an unbreakable metal plate. And he is a sweet, loving father to boot.

No wonder that wherever he goes, he leaves a trail of palpitating hearts. Fitness instructor Rozanne Yap, 27, was one such casualty, having once spotted a topless Wu jogging in the Botanic Gardens.

Wu is back on the market after he parted ways with actress-host Wong Li Lin in 2013. The couple have a daughter, Sage, nine, and a son, Jonas, eight.

Ms Yap, who follows his Instagram account, says: "He's a family guy, and that's a huge turn-on for girls."

On a date with him: His body is his temple. A high- maintenance temple. You have to respect it and help keep it fit. So, join in his favourite sports of jogging, volleyball and surfing.

On relaxed days, he likes chilling out over dinner or a movie. Cliched romantic gestures are not his thing. So candlelight dinners, flowers, and chocolates "will not be popping up left, right and centre".

Ideal woman: He says he's "getting his feet wet again back in the dating pool".

He looks out for qualities such as kindness, intelligence and a sense of adventure. He adds: "I would hope she doesn't mind being around two cool little people vying for my time too!"

DESMOND TAN, 28

Occupation: Actor

Height: 1.82m

Weight: 72kg

Social media numbers: Instagram @thedesmondtan: 94,100; Twitter @thedesmondtan: 18,500

This MediaCorp actor is the manly, fix-it guy. His bachelor pad is tricked out with his many DIY projects, such as a self- assembled bedside table.

His eligibility is boosted by his "desvastating good looks", says student Natalie Koh, 21.

As if he hasn't slain enough hearts, he also has a cute dog - Hoshi, a five-year-old English Cocker Spaniel.

"My dog is a regular guest on my Instagram, and it's more popular than me," says Tan.

Ms Koh says: "Seeing a man affectionately and unabashedly love a dog is really attractive."

On a date with him: The self-professed homebody prefers movie nights on the couch, or home-cooked meals for two.

Ideal woman: She needs to love her family and friends. And dogs.

ELVIN NG, 34

Occupation: Actor

Height: 1.81m

Weight: 74kg

Social media numbers: Instagram @elvinngchoonsiong: 152,000 followers; Twitter @ElvinNg80: 19,200

He has risen through the ranks of MediaCorp with a string of leading man roles and product endorsements, being heinously photogenic from head to toe. He hawks toothpaste with his pearly whites, and a shower gel by slathering up his hot bod under a spray of water.

As down-to-earth as he is good-looking, this prince of Caldecott Hill also makes time for his loyal fans. The 80-odd members of his official fan club Elvinology have been around for 10 years. Its Facebook page has more than 11,000 likes.

He's a real-life Prince Charming, says fan Esther Che, 28, a special education teacher, adding: "He has no airs about him."

On a date with him: Expect more talk than action. He's looking for a connection "on a spiritual level". Keep conversation topics diverse - he wants to talk about "anything under the sun" - so anything from philosophy ("What is Elvinology?" for example) to shower gel.

Ideal woman: Natural looks, with expressive eyes. Not everyone gets his "warped sense of humour", he says. So, when in doubt, laugh.

SHAUN JANSEN, 29

Occupation: Singer and marketing executive

Height: 1.83m

Weight: 66kg

Social Media Following: Instagram @shaun3jansen: 3,100 followers; Twitter @shaun3jansen: 1,200 followers

As a shy teenager, Shaun Jansen knew that playing the guitar was a surefire way to attract girls. So, he formed a band Supernova and never looked back.

The Eurasian singer-songwriter was the runner-up and resident heart-throb of local reality singing competition The Final 1 (2013).

Now he is on his way to becoming a bona fide recording artist with an album in the works.

But it is not just his glamorous stage persona that drives girls wild, says student fan Abigail Phua, 18. She thinks he's also handsome, tall, and has a good fashion sense and a great personality.

"He's loveable and kind. I feel that I can trust him," says Phua.

On a date with him: He likes places where you can hear each other talk. He suggests drinks by the beach, or dinner at a quaint restaurant.

If you are lucky, he might even serenade you with an original song. He once did that for a crush on New Year's Eve.

Ideal woman: Someone who makes him feel comfortable. Once drawn to long flowing locks, he's now into spunky bobs. And a taut midriff makes him "go wild".

TOSH ZHANG, 25

Occupation: Actor

Height: 1.81m

Weight: 67kg

Social media numbers: Instagram @toshrock: 175,000 followers; Twitter @toshrock: 119,000 followers

He debuted with a small role in the national service comedy Ah Boys To Men (2012). Still, as the straight-talking Sergeant Ong, he overshadowed his fellow Ah Boy recruits.

His co-star Wang Weiliang once said in mock jealousy: "Tosh gets the loudest cheers. I guess it's because it's the easiest to spot him. He's tall."

His fan club Intoshicated has more than 7,500 followers on Twitter and about 4,000 fans on Facebook.

Before he was on screen, he already had a YouTube presence - serving up tongue-in-cheek rants on MRT priority seats and cab fare increases in popular videos.

Recently, he snagged the lead role in The Lion Men (2014), where the boys train to be lion dance troupe members in the third instalment of Jack Neo's movie franchise about these lovable lads.

Says student fan Esther Teo, 17: "He looks good all the time. He has a stage presence that not many people have."

On a date with him: It will be in a secluded location, he says. Since The Sunday Times is a family newspaper, may we suggest cycling on Pulau Ubin on a Monday, or fishing at 4am at a 24-hour prawning facility?

Ideal woman: He makes people laugh onscreen. Offscreen, he is looking for a woman who can make him laugh.

Fasten those tumbling locks, by the way. Zhang says: "I'm not sure why, but I have a thing for girls who bun up their hair."

KHAI SAHAROM, 39

Occupation: Host, founder and architect of Kite Studio Architecture

Height: 1.85m

Weight: 83kg

Social media numbers: Instagram @stinkybolster: 1,900

Skills are sexy. And Khai Saharom has plenty of them.

First, he is a prominent compere on MediaCorp's Suria channel, and will be hosting its biennial awards show Pesta Perdana on Saturday.

Second, he is also a full-time architect in his own firm, Kite Studio Architecture.

Teacher Nur Hafizah Zahari, 25, gushes: "He has good looks, height and an attractive smile.

"He can speak English and Malay very well. Such an awesome all-rounder and high-flier."

On a date with him: This Renaissance man is into anything from art to astronomy. A date could be a visit to an art exhibition, or simply lying on the grass, stargazing.

He says he is open to new experiences too, such as dance classes.

Ideal woman: Feminine, strong and confident. He would be flattered if you make the first move.

He is a busy guy, so sometimes he might not call or text back for a while.

He also has a thing for collar bones, so let your clavicles come out to play.

JJ LIN, 34

Occupation: Mandopop singer

Height: 1.72m

Weight: 60kg.

Social media numbers: Instagram @jj_lin: 704,000 followers, Twitter @JJ_Lin: 383,000 followers

Face it, he is not a looker. After all, he was cast as the nerdy lead in Taiwanese idol drama - wait for it - I'm Not Handsome.

But hey, his stellar career more than makes up for it. In his 12-year music career, he has released 11 albums. Last year, he snagged Best Mandarin Male Singer at the Taiwan's Golden Melody Award, considered the Grammys of the Chinese music world.

Making it to the top 10 showbiz earners as crowned by the Taiwanese media, he reportedly took in NTD 245 million (S$10.7 million) last year.

But Lin's eligibility goes beyond wealth and social status, protests student fan Celeste Tan, 21.

His charm lies in his "sunshine boy-next-door" appeal, which, of late, has evolved into a "charismatic and mature aura".

On a date with him: Getting him to fit a date into his packed schedule would be a challenge. But once that is settled, you would probably be flying First Class to your date venue. After all, the singer-songwriter is based in Taiwan and flies all over Asia for work.

Date outfit? Shades and a hoodie to avoid the paparazzi.

Ideal woman: He once revealed that his cartoon crush is Disney character Pocahontas because she "has long hair, is beautiful, has a nice figure and she can sing well".

Want a real-life reference? His celebrity crush is Hebe Tien of girl group S.H.E. Yup, she also has flowing locks and a powerful voice.

NICHOLAS TAN, 25

Occupation: National swimmer-turned-model

Height: 1.84m

Weight: 72kg

Social Media Numbers: Instagram @Nickysneaky: 4,600 followers, Twitter @Nickysneaky: 272 followers

It boggles the mind why parents all over the world are so desperate for him to marry their daughters.

He is just, you know, a Harvard graduate in biology. And other than that, he is a regular Joe who represented Singapore in swimming events at the Asian Games in 2010 and the Sea Games in 2007 and 2011, and later modelled for Dolce & Gabbana's 2014 spring/summer worldwide advertising campaign.

Okay, to be fair, he is not hideous. His cheekbones are above average. As are his pecs, biceps, forearms, glutes, calves and hair.

Apparently, when he was researching health policies in China in 2013, Chinese government officials and doctors kept inviting him home for dinner, trying to introduce their daughters to him. Absolutely insane.

On a date with him: He is a spontaneous guy, so just go with the flow. He could take you to a laser tag game, then invite you to savour a $1 potong ice cream by the road.

He also makes it a point to send his date home.

Ideal woman: A carefree woman with a kind heart.

A bonus if you can speak Hokkien to his paternal grandma, who is in her 70s. He drops by to see her a few times a week.

ANAND KARAPAYA, 30

Occupation: Oli 96.8FM Radio DJ

Height: 1.80m

Weight: 80kg

Social media numbers: Instagram @anandk007: 1,000 followers, Twitter @AnAnDo07: 1,800 followers

Listeners of 96.8FM will be familiar with this DJ's sultry voice. It turns out he looks as good as he sounds - a clean-cut face with large, soulful eyes.

That was the pleasant surprise that greeted listener Ghaythri Mohan, 25, a tape librarian at a data management centre, when she checked out the deejay's Facebook page.

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but he says that when marriage comes into the picture, he wants children. "I love kids and babies," he says. "A lot of people are scared to carry babies because they are so vulnerable. But I do it naturally."

On a date with him: Expect to be surprised. He will tell you the venue and dress code, and then you will find out what is going to happen on the day. He is a sentimental soul. Ticket stubs from movie dates and couple photos will be kept in a scrapbook.

Ideal woman: A woman with the "Double B" - beauty and brains.

He says: "You're going to look at the same face for the rest of your life. I'll be lying if I tell you beauty is not important.

"As we grow older, that's when brains are important too. We need to sustain good communication. We need to keep the conversation going."

BENJAMIN KHENG, 25

Occupation: Actor and frontman of indie folk band The Sam Willows

Height: 1.73m

Weight: 63kg

Social media following: Instagram @benjaminkheng: 69,500 followers, Twitter @benjaminkheng: 7,800 followers

He is the multi-hypenate It Guy who is involved in various creative platforms: He is a guitar- strumming vocalist, a versatile actor on stage and a TV compere. In interviews, the former national swimmer comes across as genuine and earnest. But he admits to being "terrible at flirting". "Which I guess means what you see is what you get," he adds. "And I'm a good listener."

On a date with him: He is multi-faceted. So the sporty Kheng may take you wake-boarding; the sensitive musician may have you listening to a mixed tape; and hipster Kheng may enjoy sipping a cuppa with you in a cafe while having "a ridiculously in-depth conversation on the socio-cultural implications of sneakers".

Ideal woman: "An intelligent lady who can hold a conversation."
