SINGAPORE DESIGN WEEK

The annual festival that celebrates all things design will return next month. Singapore Design Week, which runs from March 5 to 18, is now in its fifth year.

This year's highlights include the inaugural Brainstorm Design conference, SingaPlural showcase, Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition, International Furniture Fair Singapore, The City Ramble Design Trails and the Market of Artists and Designers @ i Light Marina Bay.

Several districts, including Holland Village, Tanjong Pagar and the Bras Basah/Bugis area will come alive with experiential installations, workshops and other activities for the public.

There are also many satellite events, from workshops to talks to networking events.

SDW BRAINSTORM DESIGN SOCIAL MEDIA CONTEST

Singapore-based designers and design students can join a photo contest and stand to win one of 20 free passes to an exclusive March 8 session of the inaugural Brainstorm Design conference, one of the highlights of this year's Singapore Design Week. The conference brings together leaders in design and business and is held at the Mandarin Oriental Singapore.

Participants should post a photo of what good design means to them on their Instagram page and complete the caption, "Good design to me is..."

Speakers at the session include design and business leaders from global design and innovation consultancy Fjord, design and architecture studio Heatherwick Studio, social design laboratory Studio Roosegaarde, Rhode Island School of Design, Shanghai Disney Resort and companies such as Fujifilm and Mobike.

LUXURY FURNITURE RETAILER P5 OPENS STUDIO

Luxury furniture retailer P5 has opened a studio in Henderson Road, which features niche brands such as Stellar Works, Sancal, Saba Italia, Montana and Maiori.

The retailer, which has a two-storey showroom at 63 Mohamed Sultan Road, will carry more affordable luxury items and cult global brands at its studio.

The studio, which is about 4,000 sq ft, also has more flexible spaces for installations and other events.
