Orchids seem the top choice this year for Chinese New Year, going by the rows and rows of huge phalaenopsis blooms in bright pinks and reds along Thomson Road, home to many plant nurseries.

One of the biggest nurseries there belongs to Far East Flora, and its sales and marketing director, Mr Peter Cheok, says the phalaenopsis orchid is a top seller.
