British-Chinese actress Gemma Chan has been cast as the stylish Astrid Leong in the film adaptation of Kevin Kwan's best-selling book, Crazy Rich Asians, according to entertainment trade publication Variety.
Chan, 34, is best known for playing the lead Synth, or robot, in the hit British sci-fi TV series Humans (above).
She has also had roles on popular shows such as Sherlock as well as blockbuster movies Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) and Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (2016).
She joins the likes of Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh and Henry Golding to star in the Hollywood movie adaptation about the lives of the ultra-rich in Singapore.
Chan's role of Astrid, who is nicknamed "the goddess", is described in the book to be extremely chic and fashionable, the envy of young society women.
