SINGAPORE - The inaugural Straits Times and Lianhe Zaobao Best Asian Restaurants awards kick off on Wednesday (March 15) with 30 restaurants listed in the bronze category.
These include Blue Lotus Chinese Eating House at Quayside Isle, Samy's Curry in Dempsey Road and Teochew Restaurant Huat Kee in Orange Grove Road.
The awards, part of the year-long gourmet extravaganza Asian Masters, honour the finest Asian restaurants in Singapore, and are meant to be given out annually.
The silver and gold recipients will be announced at a gala reception at Mandarin Orchard Singapore on March 29.
A panel of six food critics from the two daily newspapers picked the winners based on quality of food and service. They are Straits Times Life editor Tan Hsueh Yun and deputy Life editor Wong Ah Yoke; Lianhe Zaobao Fukan (zbNOW) associate editor Glenn Low; Lianhe Zaobao food correspondents Marcus Yeo and Ng Chin Chin; and Ms Ng Yimin, a correspondent at Lianhe Zaobao.
The panel shortlisted between 70 and 80 Asian restaurants and members dined incognito at the eateries to determine the winners.
Asian Masters, which is in its fifth edition, features a slew of events including whisky- and champagne-pairing dinners throughout this month. It will continue with monthly dining promotions until February 2018.
It is organised by Sphere Exhibits, a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings, and food and beverage consultancy Poulose Associates.
