A snaking queue had formed around home-grown salted egg snack company The Golden Duck's semi-circular kiosk at Raffles City Shopping Centre yesterday morning.

The morning downpour did not deter readers of The Straits Times from gathering at the mall's basement for free packets of salted egg chips and fish skin, ahead of the scheduled 11am giveaway. In fact, so popular were the treats that The Golden Duck threw in an extra 50 packets for ST readers, taking the total number of free snack packs to 550.

The giveaway is the fourth in a series of food treats to mark the launch of ST's new food website, straitstimesfood.com.

The final giveaway takes place today at Paragon Shopping Centre at 4pm. There will be 500 bottles of Somersby Apple Cider available to those who like @StraitsTimesFood on Facebook. More treats have been lined up for next month. Stay tuned.
