Chefs and restaurateurs here say that while chicken rendang has many variations, it is usually not crispy

Last week, a MasterChef UK judge's "crispy skin" remarks ruffled feathers across South-east Asia, creating a big hullabaloo about chicken rendang.

Even Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad took to social media to weigh in on the controversy. The rivals are united on one thing - chicken rendang is not crispy.
