SHUKUU IZAKAYA

This restaurant, which opened about three weeks ago, serves sumi-yaki (charcoal grilled food) and agemono (deep-fried dishes).

Order kushiyaki ($24), assorted grilled Japanese skewers with meat, seafood and vegetables, Ika "Kuro" Age ($10), deep-fried squid in ink batter, and Tori Kara-Age ($10), bite-sized deep-fried garlic soya chicken.

The restaurant is offering an all-day-all-night drinks promotion that will last until the end of August. Customers get 20 per cent off bottled sake and shochu and need pay only $5.50 for a mug of Sapporo draft beer.

O'MA SPOON

This cafe, whose name is pronounced "oh my spoon", serves bingsu, which is shaved ice with toppings; and oven-baked honey bread imported from South Korea.

Popular bingsu options include Choco Brownie Bingsu ($18.90, left), which comes with brownie squares, chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce; and Green Tea Bingsu ($13.90), which combines matcha powder with red bean and matcha ice cream topped with almond flakes and cashew nuts. Petit Bingsu, smaller cup-sized servings, are available in four flavours.

Also on the menu are Choco Strawberry Honey Butter Bread ($14.90) and Injeolmi Toast ($8.90), which is available in cinnamon and cheese flavours, among others.

TAKEDA SHOUTEN SAKE BAR

Popular ramen chain Ramen Keisuke has collaborated with Japan's Ginza Itsuki Sushi restaurant to come up with its first bar. Modelled after Japanese alley bars, this one seats 20. Menu offerings include assorted oden ($17.80) and Green Tea Chewy Tofu ($6.80). Alcoholic drinks include bottled beers, Japanese whisky and wine.

DANCING CRAB

The TungLok Group has opened a second Dancing Crab seafood boil restaurant, at Orchard Central. Its first opened in The Grandstand last April.

The restaurant's speciality is Combo Bag 1 ($88) with a Sri Lankan crab, prawns, clams, carrots, sausages and potatoes. The food is poured out onto tables which are lined with plastic sheets and diners feast with their hands.

Recommended items on the menu include Flaming Moonshine Tiger Prawns ($8) and Lobster Roll ($29.50), which is served with a side of Cajun fries.
