When The Blue Ginger opened in Tanjong Pagar Road 25 years ago, it was the first time Peranakan cooking was taken outside home kitchens to an upmarket restaurant setting - quite unlike the few homely eateries around at the time.

But over the past decade, it has slipped out of the spotlight somewhat with high-profile Nonya restaurants such as Candlenut and Violet Oon Singapore coming on the scene.
