It is hard to resist the lure of a burger. A soft brioche bun topped with one, maybe two, thick juicy beef patties, slightly charred on the outside, topped with melted cheese and relish and a mound of triple-cooked chips.

But new kids on the butcher's block - including Impossible Foods and Beyond Meats - are disrupting the market with their plant-based alternatives.
