Young hairdresser wants to change the industry with shorter working hours

SINGAPORE - Beyond blow-drying glossy tresses, hairdresser Noel Ng has a mission - to improve the working conditions and standard of Singaporean hairdressers. His first step to achieving that is providing shorter working hours for his staff.

The 27-year-old owner of Harts Salon in Tan Quee Lan Street believes work-life balance is key to running a successful hair business. The perennial complaint from hairdressers is that they work long hours and that the job is tiring. Hence, his salon's opening hours are 1pm to 9pm on weekdays, and 11am to 7pm on weekends.
