SINGAPORE - British shoe designer Beatrix Ong is better known for becoming head of Jimmy Choo Couture at just 22 years old - but she also happens to be Sun Yat Sen's great-grand niece.

Her prestigious family tree was just one of those things she never thought about, says Ong, now 43 and an independent designer, who refers to the first president of the Republic of China as Dr Sun. "I didn't really understand it until I was about 14 - I think I'm probably asked more about it in Asia," she tells The Straits Times.
