SINGAPORE - This year's Orchard Fashion Runway is set to end with a bang as the entire stretch of Orchard Road from Ion Orchard to Paragon becomes the location of a street party with Zouk Singapore's resident deejay, DJ Hong.
From 9pm onwards on March 26, members of the public can join in the outdoor party which will wrap up the fashion show. The Orchard Fashion Runway will begin at 8pm.
The fashion show is part of Samsung Fashion Steps Out (FSO) 2016, now in its seventh year.
Organised by Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA) and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, the six-week-long event aims to showcase the spring/summer fashion collections that will be hitting the stores and encourage shoppers to spend along the namesake street.
This year's Orchard Fashion Runway, curated by Singapore's fashion producer Daniel Boey, will see models wearing clothes from eight labels walk the giant runway which will stretch from Scotts Road to Bideford Road.
The labels include Mandopop superstar Jay Chou's label Phantaci, Japanese casual wear brand Uniqlo, Israeli brand FOX Kids & Baby, incubator project Raffles Privato and Singaporean labels Revasseur, Sean & Sheila, Thomas Wee and Mash-Up. The entire street will be closed to traffic to make way for the runway.
Fashion Steps Out 2016, which will run from March 25 to May 8, will also include a couple of fringe events and shopping promotions supported by Mastercard.
At the fringe event called Knit in the City, avid knitter and entrepreneur Adeline Loo will present a fully knitted giant backdrop, headpiece and train. This will take place at Wisma Atria, Atrium at Basement 1 from April 15 to May 8. Ms Loo will also give live knitting demonstrations over the three weekends.
Financial planner Jane Tor, 23, says she is looking forward to the runway show. "It will be interesting to see what the local labels have to offer on such a big stage. The street party sounds like fun too."
