Couturier Guo Pei showcases her Chinese roots through her gowns, some of which are on display at an exhibition at the Asian Civilisations Museum

In 2015, a deep-yellow, fur-edged gown worn by pop star Rihanna at the New York Met Gala went viral overnight.

Memes of the dress, which had a 3m-long train that pooled dramatically on the red-carpeted Met steps, dominated social media for months: Rihanna was clothed in omelettes, gooey yolks and various pizza toppings.
