LOS ANGELES • Movie stars Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender had a private wedding getaway on the island of Ibiza over the weekend, said People magazine.

The 29-year-old Oscar-winning Swedish actress and the 40-year-old Irish-German actor said "I do" at La Granja Ibiza, an upscale Spanish farmhouse resort, surrounded by their friends and family, sources told the magazine.

The couple first met on the dance floor on the awards circuit, but did not fall in love until 2014, when director Derek Cianfrance asked them to live together for a month in a far-flung lighthouse in New Zealand during the shoot of the weepie, The Light Between Oceans (2016).

Ahead of the nuptials, the couple threw a party at a beach restaurant last Friday afternoon for guests such as director Steve McQueen, said People.

On Sunday, in photos published by the Daily Mail, the pair were wearing wedding rings.

The couple, who have not confirmed their marriage, have been reluctant to talk about their relationship.

However, speaking to Vanity Fair magazine last year, Cianfrance offered a glimpse of how the stars' love story started.

"What I saw was two great people who were so supportive of each other, who were really picking each other up and pushing each other," he said.

"They were going to make one another better. And they were better together."
