BEIJING • The groom-to-be thanks the parents of the bride-to-be and his future mother-in-law clasps his hand and tells him, "You're my other son."

A video of the party where Chinese actor Li Chen proposed to actress Fan Bingbing has gone viral on Chinese social media, after the couple announced last Saturday that they had got engaged, said Chinese reports.

The clip seems to have been recorded shortly after Li, 38, popped the question at a celebration of Fan's 36th birthday. In the video, they are standing in front of a giant screen showing photos of themselves.

Fan's mother is holding hands with Li, as he thanks his fiancee's parents for cultivating her, adding that he is lucky to know the family. Then he says: "I'm a little incoherent, my heart rate is 180, you're sitting there like it's nothing, I'm nervous to death."

Friends and relatives tease Li about not drinking earlier, before he concludes his speech and Fan's mother, former dancer Zhang Chuanmei, takes the microphone.

She says: "Li Chen, I hope you'll take good care of Bingbing. Bingbing, you must be considerate of Li Chen. Come rain or shine, the two of you have to be together."

By all accounts, Fan, one of China's biggest stars, had a wonderful birthday weekend. About an hour after turning 36, she announced her engagement on Weibo. Later that day, she went to the Golden Rooster Awards in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, with her newly minted fiance and picked up a Best Actress prize for the movie I Am Not Madame Bovary.
