KUALA LUMPUR • Legendary Malaysian actor Jins Shamsuddin was buried at a cemetery in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, following a funeral attended by celebrities, friends, family and relatives yesterday morning. The actor-director died on Wednesday, aged 81. He died on arriving at a clinic in Taman Melawati in Kuala Lumpur, where he was rushed to after complaining of difficulty in breathing while having tea at home.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak was among those who offered their condolences. "Sad to receive news of the passing of Tan Sri Jins Shamsuddin. Condolences to the family. May his soul be blessed. Al Fatihah," Mr Najib said on Twitter.
Born Mohamed Zain Shamsuddin in Taiping, Perak, he acted in more than 40 local and international films and directed a few hit movies in his 50-year career. Fellow artists such as film director Yusof Haslam also paid tribute. He said he learnt a lot from Tan Sri Jins about the arts and directing.
Tan Sri Jins is survived by his wife, Puan Sri Halijah Abdullah, and three sons.
