Taipei - Has Taiwanese actor Kai Ko been nabbed for a drug offence?
Not many of his co-stars today were believing the bare-bones rumour last night that Ko, who shot to fame playing a charming schoolboy besotted with his classmate in 2011's You Are The Apple Of My Eye, had been nabbed for taking drugs in China.
But the mystery today deepened after his manager said Ko, 23, had remained uncontactable hours after the rumour broke on the Chinese Tianya online forum.
Even calls and messages to his boss Angie Chai and Giddens Ko, who directed Apple, went unanswered.
And the actor has not also updated his Weibo for nearly a week, according to reports.
This afternoon, his manager finally issued a statement saying his company has sent someone to Beijing to understand the situation, promising to issue details before 8pm.
Adding to the mystery is today's report on China's NetEase website saying actor Jaycee Chan, 31, was at the site of the arrest, news of which has puzzled stars such as Amber Kuo.
Ko's co-star in the Tiny Times film series, Kuo reportedly said, "He may be young but Ko is fully aware of the influence he wields. This rumour hasn't been confirmed and is very damaging."
Michelle Chen, his co-star in Apple, said, "It can't be true!"
If Ko was indeed arrested, it would spell the end of his career in China, reported Apple Daily.
Recently, artiste management companies in China signed an undertaking not to hire stars with a drug history, it said.
