LONDON • Rod Stewart does not think it is enough to croon his 1993 hit Have I Told You Lately (That I Love You) to his wife Penny Lancaster.
Last month, the couple decided to renew their vows in the garden of their 18th-century home in Britain to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary.
The couple, whose relationship goes back 20 years, tied the knot in a mediaeval monastery in Italy in June 2007.
Amid the merry-making with 100 guests at the anniversary, the hat was passed around to help the victims of the recent Grenfell Tower inferno in London, which has claimed at least 80 lives so far.
Lancaster, 46, a former model, revealed on television talk show Loose Women: "My husband just said, 'Look, I know we said no gifts, but how about I just hand a hat around and everyone makes a donation to the terrible fire that happened in Grenfell Tower?'
"And everyone was generous to do that and Rod quadrupled it and then afterwards we wanted to make some more money and thought we could sell some of the pictures."
Hello! magazine came into the picture. "So Hello! has been generous with a huge amount of money towards the fund in exchange for a few pictures and an interview," she added.
Professionally, Stewart, 72, who was knighted last year for services to the British music industry, is not planning to retire any time soon.
Last month, the singer with 31 Top 10 hits performed at the Isle of Wight Festival in Britain, resplendent in sequins and pleasing everyone by kicking signed footballs to the crowd and dancing onstage with his five- year-old son.
