LOS ANGELES (REUTERS) - Hollywood stars walked the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards on Saturday (Jan 30).
Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan, in the running for a lead movie actress SAG Award for Brooklyn, wore a long figure-hugging pink gown by Michael Kors. Alicia Vikander, nominated in the same category for transgender movie The Danish Girl, chose a column dress by Louis Vuitton in metallic shades. Rising star Brie Larson, nominated for Room, wore a sky blue Versace gown with a daring side split.
After an outcry over the fact that not a single actor of color was nominated for an Oscar for a second year, all eyes were on the issue of diversity in the run-up to the glitzy SAG awards show.
In contrast to the Oscars, performers including Idris Elba, Viola Davis, Rami Malek and the cast of hip-hop movie Straight Outta Compton were in the running for Screen Actors Guild honours. The Screen Actors Guild does not pick a best picture winner, but instead rewards acting prowess by choosing a best ensemble cast.
