St Petersburg Ballet review unfair

I write with regard to Germaine Cheng's review of the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre (One Star Cannot Carry Entire Ballet, Life!, May 30).

The headline implied that only one dancer was worth her salt. In reality, the corps de ballet was one of the best I have had the pleasure to watch.

Their lines were perfect and their dancing was immaculate. The photo accompanying the review speaks for itself.

On the other hand, while ballerina Irina Kolesnikova's Odile lived up to expectations, her Odette was not as lyrical as she could be.

The Premier dancers and soloists were good and some had beautiful elevations.

It must be said that the choreography and production did not follow the familiar storyline and so perhaps disappointed some people.

Overall, however, for a touring company, the performance and sets met all expectations and the review did not do the company justice at all.
