Singer Taufik Batisah introduces his fiancee - on Instagram

The first Singapore Idol winner, Taufik Batisah, has come up with an encore for his announcement over the weekend that he is getting married next month. He has now not only named his wife-to-be but introduced her to his fans, in an Instagram posting.

"I've always been private about my personal life... but these few days I have been asked by so many friends and media about who my other half is," he says on the social media website. "I will like to take this moment to share my happiness with everyone who has supported me all these years. Please meet Mrs #awakkatmane to be, Sheena Akbal."

The reference was to his popular hit song, Awak Kat Mane (Where Are You). The news prompted a flurry of likes and comments from his fans and friends.

In his posting, Taufik, 33, continues: "April will be a joyful month for our families and the both of us hope that everyone will support and pray for us. Once again, I sincerely thank you for your kind wishes and prayers."

Taufik shot to fame as the winner of the first season of Singapore Idol in 2004. His fifth and latest album, Fique, was released last year, and he bagged three awards - Most Popular Song (Singapore), Most Popular Artist and Social Media Icon - at regional Malay music awards show Anugerah Planet Muzik in October.

Taufik broke the news of his impending marriage on Saturday. In a statement that day he wrote: "Similarly to how we have shared both joys and tears together throughout my career, I would also like to share this personal joy with all of you. I am glad to have finally found the special someone whom I can share my future with."

Thanking "everyone" for their kind words and well wishes, he added: "It will be a pretty hectic time for us leading to the wedding with all the preparations. I do hope that you will continue to support and pray for the best of us."
