LONDON • Prince Harry is dating Meghan Markle, star of the television series Suits, say reports.
A friend of the prince's confirmed the romance to People magazine on Monday, saying it was early days for the pair, who had been dating for "a couple of months".
British tabloid Daily Star, which broke the story on Sunday, said the two might have met in May in Toronto, where Harry, 32, promoted the 2017 Invictus Games for injured servicemen. The 35-year-old American actress lives in the Canadian city as Suits is filmed there.
Markle, who also runs a lifestyle site called The Tig (named after a mispronunciation of a wine called Tignanello), has a million followers on Instagram and her social media account has been combed for clues to the royal romance.
According to her posts and Daily Mail, she may have visited London twice in recent months. On Oct 20, she shared a photo of herself wearing a blue beaded bracelet similar to one the prince has been pictured with.
He follows her on Instagram using a private account and she follows him too, said Daily Mail.
Daily Star said she stayed with him at Kensington Palace and met some of his family. "William and Kate really liked her and she fitted in well," an insider was quoted as saying. "Meghan is a very confident and intelligent woman and she's not overawed mixing with royalty, that's one of the things Harry admires about her."
Harry broke up with actress Cressida Bonas in 2014.
Markle has an African-American mother and a father of Dutch and Irish descent. She was married to film producer Trevor Engelson from 2011 to 2013. She was "going through quite a tough time" with her previous boyfriend, chef Cory Vitiello, when the prince embarked on a charm offensive and took to texting her, said reports.
But the explosive media attention to the romance may imperil it. After the story broke on Sunday, Harry cancelled a trip to Toronto to meet Markle, said Daily Mail.
