LONDON• Fourteen albums by United States pop superstar Prince have flooded back into the British charts since his sudden recent death, but Beyonce's Lemonade went straight to the top after notching up some of the fastest sales of the year.

The Very Best Of Prince (2001) was at two, Ultimate (2006) was third and Purple Rain - OST (1984) from Prince & The Revolution climbed 51 places to fourth, the Official Charts Company said last Friday.

Three more Prince albums entered the higher reaches of last week's chart: The Hits/The B-Sides (1993) at 13, Sign O' The Times (1987) at 15 and 1999 (1982) at 28.

In all, 14 of the singer's albums were in the top 100.

The influential singer, musician and songwriter was found dead at age 57 on April 21 in an elevator at his Paisley Park Studios compound in a Minneapolis suburb. The cause of death is not yet known.

Lemonade, Beyonce's sixth studio collection, racked up 73,000 chart sales, making it Britain's second-fastest-selling artist record of this year behind David Bowie's Blackstar, the charts company said.

It is her third chart-topping album in Britain, following her 2003 debut Dangerously In Love and 2011's 4.

On the singles chart, rapper Drake's One Dance notched up a third week at No. 1 while Sia's Cheap Thrills remained at two for the fourth week running, followed by Mike Posner's I Took A Pill In Ibiza unchanged at No. 3.

Meanwhile, an iconic jacket worn by Prince in the 1984 film Purple Rain will be auctioned in Los Angeles next month, auction house Profiles In History said last Friday.

"It's definitely the most important piece of screen-worn Prince clothing that's ever come up for auction," Profiles In History president Joe Maddalena said.

"This is the first time for something like this and it might be the only time because the rest of the costumes may be in his personal wardrobe."

The famously private singer gave the jacket to a make-up artist at the end of the shoot, auction house spokesman Jeff Hare said. It has an asking price of US$6,000 (S$8,065) to US$8,000, but is likely to fetch more at the June 29 sale.

Prince wore the black-and-white jacket with leather sleeves in a famous scene, as he picks up his co-star Apollonia Kotero on a motorcycle. They ride to a lake, where he convinces her to strip off her tight leather jumpsuit and jump in the cold water.

The auction will also include costumes from Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Alicia Keys, as well as a glove inlaid with Swarovski crystals that Michael Jackson wore during his Dangerous tour in 1992.
