Of fairy lights, friendship, and a festival without borders

We arrived in Singapore six years ago, a few weeks before Deepavali. As we unpacked our luggage and tried to convert our empty apartment into a home, it struck me that this was a particularly lonely time for us.

Unlike the hustle and bustle of India during this season, Singapore seemed quietly oblivious to the impending festival.
