My Love From The Star's Kim Soo Hyun and writer team up again for year's "most anticipated K-drama"

SEOUL (THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - The upcoming K-drama Producer, featuring actor Kim Soo Hyun and screenwriter Park Ji Eun of My Love From The Star, has been dubbed "the most anticipated show" of 2015 by industry insiders.

As the cast and crew for Producer are confirmed, reports are speculating about whether the show will repeat the sensational pan-Asian success of My Love From The Star, the 2014 drama written by Park and starring Kim as an irresistible extraterrestrial.

After a one-year hiatus from the small screen, Kim is to play a rookie television producer in Producer, which will depict the dynamic work and life of television network employees.

Actor Cha Tae Hyun, well-loved for his comic roles in box-office hits such as My Sassy Girl (2001) and Scandal Makers (2008), is to star in Producer as a veteran producer of variety entertainment shows and actress Gong Hyo Jin as a music producer. Singer-songwriter IU will play a pop diva.

Besides the four A-list stars, there is a high-profile producing staff, including Park, who is known for writing quick-paced, humorous dialogue for top-rated dramas such as Queen Of Housewives, and Seo Soo Min, who is known for directing variety shows Gag Concert and Two Days And One Night.

The collaboration of two of the industry's big names has garnered much attention, especially since Seo has previously focused on comedy and variety shows.

"Boundaries between genres are disappearing," KBS entertainment department head Park Joong Min tells PD Journal newspaper.

Producer's scheduling also reflects the crossover, reports say. The show is set to air on Fridays and Saturdays at 11pm, a time slot usually reserved for late-night comedy shows.

The stretch from Friday into Saturday is a breakthrough too, since network dramas until now have been strictly divided into weekday and weekend shows.

Producer will begin shooting this month and air in May on KBS2, reports say.
