Location scout for Narcos shot dead in Mexico

LOS ANGELES • Did members of a Mexican drug cartel think that the man was taking photographs and notes for a police operation?

That theory is making the rounds after Mr Carlos Munoz Portal, a location scout for Netflix show Narcos, was shot and killed last week in a remote area in central Mexico.

He had gone there to look for sites to film scenes for the fourth season of the hit show.

The shooting is in an area with one of the highest murder rates in Mexico, trade portal Variety said.

One of Portal's friends told a local newspaper that the location scout carried a camera. "Maybe they thought he was collecting information and they started tracking him in a car," he speculated.

The fourth season of Narcos will reportedly explore the origins of Mexico's infamous Juarez cartel.
