Taiwanese actor James Wen has long been known to be fiercely private about his personal life. This has clearly not changed now that he is married with a child.
During an interview with Life!, the hunky 37-year-old was polite but guarded whenever questions veered towards his wife or daughter, who is reportedly two this year.
While he chooses to reveal few facts of his family life, he does show clear signs of contentment about being a first-time father.
"I don't think I've changed very much in any way, but I feel like life is a lot more complete this way," he says with a wide grin.
"I really can't tell you much about what I'm like as a father, except that I'm a good one. She's so young now, so of course, she can do no wrong and I will dote on her no matter what."
Apart from this, openly sharing details about his family life, he says matter-of- factly, is "not my style, unlike some other celebrities".
Might he be referring to his fellow Taiwanese celebrities such as couple Blackie Chen Chien-chou and Christine Fan, who regularly post pictures of themselves with their twin babies?
Wen laughs and quickly says: "We all just choose to have our own way of doing things and there's nothing wrong with their way, either.
"Maybe it's easier for them because both of them are celebrities. But my wife is not in the entertainment industry at all and she would prefer not to be bothered by other people."
Little is known about his wife Hsiao-jun, except that he had dated her for 20 years before they tied the knot in 2013. It is believed that she is a full-time housewife.
The actor, who is best known for starring in the hit Taiwanese TV drama The Fierce Wife (2010), was speaking to Life! to promote his upcoming four-part TV series Echoes Of Time.
In the time-travel drama produced by StarHub, which premieres on Aug 10, he plays a sunny but hot-headed World War II soldier whose life changes when he meets modern-day postgraduate student Elva (played by Singaporean actress Dawn Yeoh).
"They have an interesting story, but it's not a romantic one. Watch and find out," he says cryptically.
It is his first time filming a series in Singapore and the hot weather, he says, has been "the hardest thing to deal with". Last week, he also shot scenes in a remote part of Malacca, Malaysia, where he was "attacked by mosquitoes and bugs".
"Otherwise, filming in this part of the world has been very easy and fun. Everyone is professional and friendly," he says of the crew and cast that also include Malaysian-born Singapore-based rising star Lawrence Wong, 32.
"Also, who can deny the amazing food available here to me during my breaks? I've had so many bowls of bak kut teh, which surprisingly tastes even better in this heat," he says, before turning to ask a production manager nearby whether they can have bak kut teh for dinner.
It seems like he might have had a bit too much good food lately, as he politely declined to show off his famous abs or bulging biceps for the photo shoot.
"My abs are still there, but the lines are not so clear anymore. I'll start working out harder after I return to Taiwan," he says with a laugh.
