(REUTERS) - Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth has been recognised as a rising talent at the Zurich Film Festival.

The Australian actor was in the Swiss city over the weekend to receive the Golden Eye Award.

Hemsworth said he was honoured to be called the festival's "New A-Lister".

"I feel very fortunate to be part of this festival," said the actor. "It's, you know, a relatively young festival, I guess but something that's celebrating and honouring filmmaking and yeah, I'm very honoured to be a part of it."

Hemsworth was also in town for the green carpet premiere of his new movie The Dressmaker, in which he stars opposite Kate Winslet.

He said the period drama gave him the chance to work in his home country once again.

He added, "I sort of have been looking for a few years to do a film back in Australia. I've been working in America for the past six years and I really just wanted to go back and do something in my own accent. This came along and Kate Winslet was a part of it and that was the deciding factor. Yeah, it was just a great opportunity."

The Zurich Film Festival runs till Oct 4.
