Lee Min Ho loses Best New Actor to Park Yu Chun at the Paeksang Arts Awards

SEOUL - Film actor Choi Min Sik and variety show producer Na Young Seok won the top prizes at South Korea's Paeksang Arts Awards on Tuesday, as K-drama stars Park Shin Hye and Lee Min Ho took the popularity awards.

One of the night's two Grand Prizes was given to Choi, the star of The Admiral, a historical film that is the highest-grossing Korean movie to date, said reports in The Hollywood Reporter and Ming Pao Daily News.

The other was awarded to Na, the producer of popular reality television shows including Grandpas Over Flowers (elderly actors go backpacking), and 3 Meals A Day (actors cook).

Paeksang is South Korea's answer to the Golden Globes ceremony, which celebrates both movies and TV shows.

In the categories for the small screen, teen shotgun wedding comedy Heard It As A Rumour and office drama Incomplete Life were the biggest winners. Heard It As A Rumour won Best Drama and Best New Actress for Ko Ah Sung as a teenaged wife and mother who turns her husband's upper-class household upside down.

Incomplete Life took three prizes: Best Director for Kim Won Seok, Best Actor for Lee Sung Min as an inspiring sales manager and Best New Actor for Yim Si Wan as a talented, undervalued intern.

Best Actress was given to Song Yoon Ah for family drama Mama, and Best Screenplay to Park Kyung Soo for legal corruption thriller Punch.

Lee Jong Suk and f(x) singer Krystal were named Most Popular Actor and Actress for journalism drama Pinocchio and romance My Lovely Girl.

For the big screen, Lee Min Ho had been nominated for Best New Actor for his movie Gangnam Blues, but the prize was given to JYJ singer Park Yu Chun for his thriller Sea Fog, said Ming Pao.

Instead, Lee and Park Shin Hye, the leading man and lady of K-drama The Inheritors, won iQiyi Star Awards, new popularity prizes from the Chinese video website. He thanked his Chinese fans in Mandarin, said Ming Pao. Lee was also named Most Popular Actor for Gangnam Blues and Park, Most Popular Actress for her movie The Royal Tailor.

Auteur Im Kwon Taek's drama about an executive with a dying wife, Revivre, won two prizes, Best Film and Best Supporting Actress for Kim Ho Jung in the role of the wife.

Kim Seong Hoon was named Best Director for hit-and-run thriller A Hard Day, which also won Best Actor for Lee Sun Kyun as a homicide detective having a terrible day that takes him from his mother's funeral to a road accident and more.

Last year's Grand Prize winner, actress Gianna Jun, was the night's final presenter, said Ming Pao. She handed this year's Grand Prize to Na.
