Kit Chan's management responds to "one-sided" reports about her off-key performance

Singapore - Following home-grown singer Kit Chan's ousting from China singing reality contest I Am A Singer last Friday, news surfaced online that she was off-key during her rendition of Jacky Cheung's Heart Cut By A Knife.

Chinese media reports had quoted a music critic Deng Ke, who was present during the recording, saying that Chan was off-key throughout her entire song and listening to it felt like his heart was being "cut by a knife" .

He also pointed out that Taiwanese singer A-lin's voice cracked during her performance. He claimed that the show corrected Chan's key and A-lin's voice crack during post production.

The 42-year-old Chan declined to comment on the allegations, but her management has responded to the "one-sided" reports.

The statement said that Chan has held plenty of "successful large-scale performances overseas". As Chan is not as active in China, the Chinese audience may not have the chance to hear her sing live and such reports will cast doubts on her vocal abilities.

The management added: "We believe that the China audience will have a chance to get to listen to Kit perform live in future, and not base their impressions of her on such one-sided reports.

"A singer is a public figure and we respect all critics. However, what we value is how to give our utmost to prepare to ensure every performance is best valued."

So far, netizens and music industry folks have been supportive of the Singaporean songbird.

Local music producer Eric Ng was in full support of Chan in an interview with My Paper.

He said: "I've worked with Kit many times and there's no doubt that she has solid live singing abilities. She sang live for her performance in musical Snow.Wolf.Lake."

There's good news for local fans of Chan. She will be holding her solo concert here in June, four years since her last concert in Singapore. More details will be announced at a later date.
