Singaporean singer-songwriter JJ Lin has announced a new concert tour.

On Sunday night, the 36-year-old first unveiled the tour's name - JJ Lin Sanctuary World Tour - on Instagram.

On Monday evening, he followed up with a Facebook Live video recorded from Taiwan, where he is based.

In it, he spoke with Taiwanese comedian and host Mickey Huang and revealed that the tour will kick off in Shanghai on March 17 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Other stops announced were Wuhan, Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, Dalian, Beijing, Jinan, Nanjing, Chongqing, Changsha, Chengdu, Tianjin, Hefei, Nanning, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The dates will be announced later.

In the video, Lin said audiences can expect old favourites as well as new songs, adding: "I hope I can use music of the highest standard to tell a very special story."

He said he was taking a "consolidative" approach to putting the show together.

"I am interested in many different things. I will try to 'combine' many different aspects of myself in this show."

The name of the tour comes from the title of the first track on his new album, Message In A Bottle, which was released last month.

The tour's music director is Canadian musician and record producer David Foster, who has worked with musicians such as Michael Buble and the late Whitney Houston.

During the video, an audio clip was played in which Foster said: "I am really looking forward to performing with him. JJ is so well known all over the world.

"I love the way he sings. I love the way he writes. I think it is a perfect fit."

It was also announced that a new app, titled Sanctuary, has been launched for the tour.

It allows users to get more information on the concerts, buy tickets and also interact with the singer through a "message in a bottle" function.

Lin is famous for hits such as River South, She Says and Twilight. He won the Golden Melody Award for Best Mandarin Male Vocalist in 2014 and 2016 for his albums Stories Untold and From M.E. To Myself respectively.

His last concert tour, titled JJ Lin Timeline: Genesis World Tour, included a show at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in 2015.

Before a full house, the seasoned performer sang duets with his mother, father and elder brother, as well as Our Singapore, the English theme song of the National Day celebrations that year.
