HONG KONG - Truncating a Thailand getaway she had gone on after her mother's latest arrest, Jackie Chan's daughter, Etta Ng, returned to Hong Kong on Sunday (April 2) and was admitted to hospital, said newspapers.

Tension between the 17-year-old and her single mother, ex-beauty queen Elaine Ng, 44, came to the fore last month after a dispute, apparently over sedatives found in Etta's room, led to Ng's arrest on suspicion of criminal intimidation.

Last Friday, the teen left for Thailand, after posting a status update on Facebook on Wednesday about "feeling stressed", said Apple Daily. According to Ming Pao Daily News, she was travelling with her mother's friends.

But she was said to have flown back to Hong Kong on Sunday morning and gone to hospital directly, reported the newspaper. Her mother rushed there too, said Ming Pao.

In response to media queries, Ng said Etta was not feeling well and they were waiting for the doctor's report.

Asked about rumours that her daughter had attempted suicide, she did not answer, said Ming Pao. Instead, she let out a few sighs and said: "I'm really sorry."

Ming Pao, citing Internet users, said Etta had shared articles about depression and suicide on social media last year.

She was born in 1999, days after Chan admitted an affair with Ng and called it a mistake all men would have made. He is married to former actress Lin Feng-jiao and they have a son, actor Jaycee, 34.

Ng raised Etta in Shanghai, before they returned to Hong Kong in 2011. In 2015, she was arrested on suspicion of child abuse. Etta was said to have reported her mother to the police because she was worried about her drinking problem.
