Most escape games are set in a room that participants have to break out of.

The Guardians, however, is an escape game that will take place outdoors, along the Sentosa Line cable car route.

In this case, "escape" refers to a flight from reality, but it remains a physical adventure game that involves solving puzzles.

From next Monday to July 2, participants in teams of four to six will race against time to collect clues around Sentosa to crack brainteasers to complete their mission.

The Guardians is a collaboration between One Faber Group, which runs services and attractions such as Singapore Cable Car and the Sentosa Merlion, and home-grown company The Escape Artist.

"It's a great bonding activity not just for friends, but families as well. Families can go on an adventure together, put their wits to the test and solve puzzles as a team. It's bonding time on a different and interesting level," says Ms Juliana Yeo, a programming and events specialist from One Faber Group.

Mr Ivan Tan, 32, of The Escape Artist, helped design the game and he says it is suitable for first-timers as well as more experienced gamers.

"We made it such that the game appeals to a very wide spectrum of players. Everyone will get to be a hero for the day."

The Guardians is set in a time when Ancients and Celestials ruled the world. Players have to overcome obstacles set up by mystical sea guardians that live on the island to reach Cassius, one of the most powerful Celestials hiding there.

Players can also look forward to a more immersive experience with the use of a Web portal with GPS technology that will give them real-time updates for the game, alerting them when they get closer to clues.

It seems that buzz has already been building for the event. "The response has been very promising for pre-sale tickets," says Ms Yeo.

Escape game junkies such as research assistant Aieshah Arif, 25, are looking forward to the challenge. She says: "It sounds intense, but I think it's going to be really fun having the game on Sentosa. The role-playing involved also makes this a next-level immersive experience."

  • Game Packages are $140 (for four people), $150 (for five) and $160 (for six). Faber Licence Members and Sentosa Island Partners get a discounted rate of $100. Go to the-guardians.peatix.com/view to buy tickets or for details.
