The use of real explosions and props improves the feel of the movie as well as raises the actors' standards, says Overlord director Julius Avery

Director Julius Avery had a rule when making the horror movie Overlord - keep the special effects old-school.

"I like to have a tactile reality, to keep everything as real as possible," he says to The Straits Times on the telephone from Los Angeles.
