Nobody took them seriously when veteran radio presenters Glenn Ong and Flying Dutchman, whose real name is Mark Van Cuylenburg, said that they were done with radio last year.

The pair, who hosted the morning show of Mediacorp's Class 95FM from 2004 to 2013, had quit at almost the same time.

Many suspected they would get together at a rival station and Ong and Van Cuylenburg also left not- so-subtle hints in press interviews and on social media.

In July, they broke the news on air: They were the new hosts of the #1 Breakfast Show on SPH Radio station ONE FM, which airs on weekdays from 6 to 10am.

The reunited pair, known for their sharp delivery and on-air camaraderie, ended up boosting the listenership of the station.

In a Nielsen Radio survey done two months after the new show started, the station saw an increase in cumulative listenership from 243,000 to 260,000.

For their enduring command over the radio waves and cult following, the pair makes it to the Life Power List this year.

Ong is still feeling the rush of his new gig.

"I feel born again, my passion for radio has been reignited," says Ong, who is engaged to Mediacorp radio DJ Jean Danker.

Before the move, he spent 19 years at Mediacorp Radio, first at 987FM, then called Perfect 10, and later at Class 95FM. His last gig there was co-hosting morning show The Morning Express with Joe Augustin.

Soon after leaving the broadcaster, he became a director at food and beverage and hospitality consulting firm Cir Vis, a position he still holds.

Van Cuylenburg's 19-year radio career began at Rediffusion in the early 1980s. He was with Mediacorp's Class 95FM's morning show for 17 years before switching to the broadcaster's Gold 90.5FM.

The entrepreneur, who is married with four children, has several businesses, including an events company in Singapore and a bar and restaurant in Bintan, Indonesia.

Ong says he is looking forward to the new year. Having featured international celebrities such as members of English hard-rock veterans Def Leppard on ONE FM recently, he says listeners can expect more celebrities in the coming year.

"2016 will be absolutely rocking," he says. "We have so many things planned for our fans, so many acts we're flying in - Hollywood comedian Kevin Hart has already confirmed that he's coming to perform for his fans on ONE FM. Stay tuned to Singapore's coolest radio station."
