Taiwanese-American rapper Miss Ko is considered a pioneer of the hip-hop genre in Asia. She won a prestigious Golden Melody Award for Best New Artist for her debut album Knock Out (2012) and is both brash and playful on her latest record, Queen Of Queens (2016).

Reggae is the unlikely genre of choice for Taiwan's Matzka, who also stirs aboriginal music, jazz and hip-hop into his beguiling musical stew. His band, also named Matzka, were named Best Band at the Golden Melody Awards for their 2010 self-titled debut.

Taiwanese indie duo katncandix2 have been on hiatus since 2013, but member Hsiao Chiu is back as a solo singer-songwriter with a debut album, The Life Of Stars (2017), under her belt. Appropriately enough, the record opens with the track, Long Time No See.
