About 4,000 people attended the Shin Min/Wanbao Getai Awards, held at the Paya Lebar Sheng Hong Temple last Saturday night. Organised by Singapore Press Holdings' Chinese evening newspapers, Shin Min Daily News and Lianhe Wanbao, the annual awards honour the best getai talents in Singapore. This is the eighth instalment of the awards.

A total of 29 awards were given out for categories such as Best Male and Best Female Getai Singer and Most Popular Newcomer. There were also two special awards presented for the first time. Director Royston Tan bagged the Getai Movie Achievement Award, while getai star Liu Ling Ling, who has contributed significantly to Singapore's getai scene, received the Getai Contribution Award.

Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) and Second Minister for the Ministry of Defence, was the guest of honour at the event.
