Fans spot water-bottle gaffes in Little Women film

LOS ANGELES • When American director Greta Gerwig's adaptation of novelist Louisa May Alcott's Little Women was released in December last year, it drew widespread acclaim.

But recently, the film, which is set in the 19th century, has drawn attention for decidedly more 21st-century reasons. Hawk-eyed fans of the movie spotted what appear to be stainless-steel and plastic water bottles in the same scene.

Ms Madelyn Rancourt, a TikTok user who describes herself as a big fan of the film, made a video asking if anyone else had noticed the errant bottles, which appear in the background of a scene with actor Timothee Chalamet, who played Theodore "Laurie" Laurence.

The silver ring and handle on one bottle and a wrapper around the plastic bottle are blurry, but clearly are not in keeping with the kinds of amenities the movie's characters would have had.

The film's production companies could not be reached for comments.

The bottles' appearances come nearly a year after television series Game Of Thrones (2011 to 2019) had its own errors inspired by misplaced drinks. In one episode, a Starbucks coffee cup was spotted on a table near key character Daenerys Targaryen (played by actress Emilia Clarke). In the finale of the series, a water bottle appeared near the chair of Samwell Tarly (played by actor John Bradley) as the leaders of Westeros debated their future.

After the coffee-cup episode, HBO acknowledged the error in a statement: "The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea." It later erased the cup from the episode.

The coincidence of errors between the movie and HBO series was not lost on viewers. "The Starbucks cup in the background of Game Of Thrones and hydroflask in the background of Little Women would make a cute couple," a Twitter user wrote.
