SHANGHAI • The Chinese authorities will have to make sure they interview the right person in probing whether A-lister Fan Bingbing had allegedly tried to evade paying taxes.

When the media ran stories of the actress, who reportedly signed two contracts for a four-day project, with the deal bearing a lower monetary value to be used for taxreporting, some foreign outlets published a photo that was not of Fan, 36.

Provided by a wire agency, that photo showed a person called Ms He Chengxi, 23, who runs a plastic surgery clinic in Shenzhen that can create "celebrity faces".

According to Quartz Media, Ms He first struck people with her close resemblance to Fan when she took part in a television singing contest in 2016, a similarity which she traced to plastic surgeries over eight years.

She had also turned up at the recent Cannes Film Festival, where some foreign journalists mistook her for Fan.

Ms He was not surprised, going by what she posted on Weibo recently: "Plastic surgery really can change one's destiny."
