Eve Ai, Mayday lead nominations

TAIPEI • Rockers Mayday lead the nominations for the 28th Golden Melody Awards, announced on Tuesday, with eight nods for their album, History Of Tomorrow.

They will square off against two other leading nominees, singer Eve Ai, who has seven nods for Talk About Eve, and indie newcomers No Party For Cao Dong, who have six nods for The Servile, in the top categories, said Taiwan's CNA News.

For Song Of The Year, Mayday (Tough), Ai (The Sum Of Us) and No Party For Cao Dong (Simon Says) are up against big names Jay Chou (Love Confession), Rainie Yang (Traces Of Time In Love), Wu Bai (Jump Hole), Faith Yang (Centrifugal Force) and Yoga Lin (Spoiled Innocence).

For Best Mandarin Album, Mayday and Ai will face off against fellow Taiwanese singer Waa Wei (Run! Frantic Flowers!), Hong Kong R&B star Khalil Fong (Journey To The West), Chinese singer-songwriter Guo Ding (The Silent Stone Star) and The Voice Of China alumnus Xu Jun (Million Songs Hill).

Ai won Taiwan's singing competition Super Idol in 2011 and joined The Voice Of China as a member of Team Na Ying in 2014.

She is up for Best Female Mandarin Singer, alongside Faith Yang, Waa Wei, Jia Jia (Still Missing), Ellen Loo (Imperfections) and Miss Ko (Queen Of Queens).

For his album, Jay Chou's Bedtime Stories, the pop king is up for Best Male Mandarin Singer for the eighth time, said Apple Daily.

He will square off against Yoga Lin (Sell Like Hot Cakes), Khalil Fong, Guo Ding, indie singer Crowd Lu (What A Folk!!!!!!), rapper Dwagie (Hard Knock) and Malaysian rapper Namewee (Cross Over Asia).

The awards ceremony will be held on June 24 at the Taipei Arena.
